Did I just buy something in the romance section?!

Oh yes I did!!! That is officially a first for me. A new friend of mine suggested I read the Dark-Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. She swore they were "super amazing" and I need to make it through 52 books somehow so I figured eh, why not? I was thinking too that this might get Nate off my case for reading teenage vampire novels! Now I'm just reading adult vampire-ish novels ;-)
I'm not even going to lie. I was a little embarrassed to purchase a book titled Fantasy Lover with a picture of a seductive looking man on the front. Especially since the salesperson at Borders happened to be a teenage boy. Sometimes I am so glad I am not telepathic!
I also do not consider myself a "book porn" kind of gal! I'm no prude, but it just has never appealed to me. Luckily for me, this book had an actual solid story line that was not porn! I mean don't get me wrong, there's definitely porn-ish sections but it wasn't all about that. It stole my heart when it started bringing in Greek mythology. I loved this book! I'm glad my friend Tara recommended it and I have since loaned my copy to another friend of mine who is looking for a new series to get into. And for next week I am reading the next book in the series, Night Pleasures. (Yes I had to buy that from another teenage boy sales clerk. Borders really ought to start hiring more adult women!)

352 pages.
Week 2 Book 2- COMPLETE! Bring it on week 3!!!!
Also, I'm still waiting for my gold star.

A Touch of Dead

Let me start by saying I pretty much devoured this book in one sitting. This is something I tend to do with all the "Sookie Stackhouse" novels. Once you start them you really just can't stop. Thank you Ms. Harris for putting exciting events at the end of each of your chapters!
A Touch of Dead by Charlaine Harris is what I call a "filler" book. There are five short stories involving Sookie and some of Bon Temps other local residents. The stories are just supposed to be fun additions to the main story line. She explains the time lines they're all supposed to fit into but I'm not sure they really do! However, I thoroughly enjoy any snippet of these stories I can get so you'll hear no complaints from me!!
I was hoping this would hold me over on my need for Sookie until the 10th book in the series finally hits the mass market paperback. I refuse to buy them in any other form now since my bookshelf would just look funny. Personally, I thought it could have used more Eric ;-)

208 pages.
Week one and Book one... COMPLETE! Where's my gold star?

Oops! I started late :-)

Well anyone who knows me should not be in the least surprised that I didn't start my own challenge on time! That said, the important part is that I did start it.
So we'll start with the week of January 16th. Good thing this isn't a job!!!

52 books in 52 weeks

My whole purpose for this blog is to actively track my plan to complete 52 books in 52 weeks. Ideally that means I'll be reading one book per week, but those of you who know me personally know me better than that! And those of you who don't, you'll learn soon enough!

I don't recall where I originally got the idea from. I know it's been something I've been tossing about since my first or second year in college... so it's been about 9 or 10 years. I actually started it at the beginning of 2010 but failed to keep track of what books and the time frames and once I went off track it was all down hill from there! I blame my horrible pick for my February book club selection for getting me off track initially. Thanks a lot Time Traveler's Wife! I know there are fans of that book out there but I assure you that I am not one. And I was really thinking I would be!

So January 1, 2011 I begin again! I will post weekly the book I read along with its stats (page numbers, genre, any other goodies I can think of) and a brief description and my feedback on it. I will post any possible spoilers at the end with a BIG FAT WARNING before them. My goal is to avoid including any intricate plot details that might ruin your experience but I've been known to spill the beans here and there. So I promise to at least warn you so you may avert your eyes before I do!

I imagine many of the books will be fiction. Probably a fair portion of them will be supernatural fiction as that is my current love. Also, a fair amount of those were probably obtained from the "Young Adult" section. I'll have you remember that 28 counts as a "young adult" still ;)
Some books will be re-reads for me. It's been ages since I cut into any of the Harry Potter series and with these last two movies being so thick with detail I believe I do owe it to myself to re-read the series. There are others I would like to re-read as well. However I am aiming for as many new-to-me books as possible. And I'll tell you what... I have a whole bookcase full of them just waiting for me!
I look forward to hearing about the books you're reading and your feedback on ones I have chosen as well!

And I promise that I'll try to keep the posts shorter than this in the future ;)

Greetings and salutations!!

Well hello and thanks for stopping by! I'm going to officially join the world of blogging and pretend I too have something important to say that everyone should hear/read. This particular blog is going to be about the books I have read and am currently reading and perhaps some that are on my to-read list. I hope you enjoy!
